From the violin, Dr. Jazz then studied the saxophone, beginning with an antique C-melody instrument before moving on to master both the alto and tenor sax. Enjoying playing various styles of jazz with a variety of musicians, Dr. Jazz's love of music became his driving force. His greatest influences were Paul Desmond, Stan Getz and Charles Lloyd -- in fact, his first record purchase was a Stan Getz album on the MFP (Music For Pleasure) label, featuring Jimmy Raney on guitar. In 1997, Dr. Jazz moved to Australia, bringing with him his passion for jazz -- a passion now shared with others via community radio. Joining Kalamunda Community Radio (KCR 102.5 FM) in April 2009, his programme Ten 'til Late is a blend of styles from artists all over the globe -- from bebop, free jazz, jazz funk, and fusion to smooth. Dr Jazz’s programme goal is to promote Australian jazz artists, be they vocal or instrumental. Useful links: http://www.jazzscript.co.uk/extra/brit.sax.htm |
